Isle of Raasay Distillery & Borodale House
The first Gold Laurel went to a property for invigorating a rural economy through innovation and hospitality excellence. Based on a Scottish Island, with a population of only 150 people, a project was set up to help safeguard the economic future and attract visitors. Not only for day visits but overnight stays. Guests can now not only enjoy single malts from their own distillery but a stay at Borodale House that delights whisky lovers, wildlife spotter and anyone looking to get away from it all.
Dumfries House
The second Gold Laurel went to a property which was almost not going to be there. Only through royal intervention the estate was saved and is now set up with six bespoke training centres offering education and training programmes to local primary and secondary schools. There is a residential offering with outdoor and indoor activities, a hospitality training centre and educational gardens, all with a focus on farm to plate learning and hospitality.
Crieff Hydro
The third gold Laurel is celebrating a very special anniversary. Opened in 1868 and still owned by family members, astonishingly the strongest drink you could order for decades was a ginger beer until they opened the bar in 1994. Opened as a hydropathic spa now you can not only relax at the hotel or in one of their lodges and cabins but enjoy great outdoor activities or fine cuisine.
