The brand-new Mercure Dumfries Cargenholm House has opened its doors after months of refurbishment, ready to welcome overnight and dining guests for a Scottish experience filled with heritage and history.

Nestled in the quiet countryside only ten minutes from the old historical market town of Dumfries, the historic building, made up of two distinct residential properties from the 19th and 20th century, has undergone a full refurbishment. Managed by Splendid Hospitality Group, a contemporary 61-bedroom hotel has been created, filled with authentic and locally inspired touches reflecting the area.

General Manager of the hotel, Jamie Milligan, says: “We are thrilled to finally be able to show off our exciting new hotel to guests and visitors, and can’t wait to welcome everyone to the new Cargenholm House. This is a building filled with history and heritage dating back to original owner Archibald McMunro’s discovery expeditions to the Antarctic, and we are encouraging our guests to discover this unique heritage for themselves.”

In addition to stylish rooms with all the conveniences expected in a Mercure for both leisure and business travelers, the new hotel features Archibald Restaurant & Bar, as well as meeting space for up to 60 people. Serving traditional Scottish, hearty dishes inspired by local ingredients, the restaurant is set to become a place to gather for guests and locals alike, with a choice of local craft beers and ales and an extensive wine list offered in the bar.
