Luxury Hotel of The Year

Kinloch Lodge Hotel in the Isle of Skye

The Hotel Management Team posted on Social Media:

'We've been awarded Luxury Hotel of the Year, one of 10 awards from the Good Hotel Guide. We are all overjoyed at Kinloch to receive such a prestigious award. The Good Hotel Guide is 100% independent, based entirely on recommendations by their readers, which makes this an award from our many guests.

'Luxury’ means many different things to different people. To us at Kinloch, luxury is the genuine warmth of hospitality we aim to give. It is our active encouragement that our guests feel at home by the fires, while we bring them drinks. It is for someone to greet them in the morning and ask if they slept well. Throughout the experience, we want our guests to know that their comfort and happiness really matters to us. Hospitality is ultimately about care, and being cared for is a true luxury. This award is for the whole team at Kinloch, each individual is so precious and essential to our success.'

Kinloch Lodge is a family-run hotel combining the relaxed comfort of highland hospitality with world-class food at head chef Marcello Tully’s restaurant.

Scottish Hotel of The Year

Knockendarroch Hotel, Pitlochry, Scotland

Owned by Struan and Louise Lothian since 2014, Knockendarroch Hotel offers a contemporary country house style in a quiet elevated position in central Pitlochry.

Most of the 14 bedrooms benefit from panoramic views of Pitlochry and the surrounding hills of Highland Perthshire. The hotel has a Visit Scotland 4 Star Gold Award and this year has been awarded several Travellers’ Choice Awards for Scotland by Tripadvisor. These include Best Small Hotel, Best Service, Most Romantic Hotel and a Hall of Fame award.

The property which dates back to 1880 has a relaxed, cosy style combining traditional tweeds with contemporary touches. There are roaring log fires in the welcoming lounges and guests can relax with one of the many books on the bookshelves throughout the hotel. There is a range of Scottish small batch gins to sip over canapés and guests can indulge in the cabinet of over 50 malt whiskies after dinner. The two AA rosette restaurant has a modern, Scottish menu which changes daily.

Struan commented, “For us, this is the ultimate award from the definitive independent hotel guide. We are absolutely delighted and honoured to be recognised alongside such legends of the industry. We would never suggest that Knockendarroch is the best or most luxurious hotel in Scotland. Rather, we like to think that this award recognises the overall experience that we offer our guests, from the comfortable bedrooms, the inviting lounges with log fires and the amazing views, to our friendly service style. The phenomenal team is key to delivering our vision and heartfelt thanks must go to them for their skill and tireless hard work. We look forward to the future and continuing to improve on every aspect of what we do here at Knockendarroch.”

Rooms starts from £250, for dinner bed and breakfast for two guests sharing a twin or double room, inclusive of VAT.

Best Restaurant With Rooms

Three Chimneys

The Good Hotel Guide said: “Long-standing owners Shirley and Eddie Spear are welcoming hosts at their loch- side island retreat. Suites are generously equipped. Chef Scott Davies uses excellent local produce in his highly creative cooking.”

Shirley Spear, Owner at The Three Chimneys, added: “May Day 2019, will be our 20th anniversary of opening The House Over-By beside The Three Chimneys Restaurant in Skye. It goes without saying that Eddie and I are delighted to learn we have been voted Editor’s Choice “Restaurant with Rooms” in this year’s independent Good Hotel Guide.

“In that first year, we were awarded 5 stars by VisitScotland and were inspected by many professionals. We made such a nervous start with our six beautiful bedroom suites, wondering if anyone would ever book to come and stay with us.  Little did we know how popular our accommodation would become, thanks to our wonderful guests and our fantastic staff, over all the years.”

The Good Hotel Guide Editor’s Choice 2019 award is the latest achievement in a successful 12 months for The Three Chimneys. Having retained 3 AA Rosettes continuously for the past 19 years, The Three Chimneys was awarded the title of UK Restaurant of the Year in the Editor’s Awards within the Waitrose Good Food Guide 2018, AA Service Award for the UK in 2018, and has retained its place in the UK’s top 50 in the new, 2019 guide.

The Three Chimneys went on to win the Restaurant of the Year title at this year’s CIS Excellence Awards, while Head Sommelier, Charlotte Davies, reached the finals of the prestigious Gold Service Scholarship 2018.

Serving the best of Skye, land and sea, The Three Chimneys has established itself as a destination dining experience for more than 30 years. Based within an original Skye croft house, The Three Chimneys is renowned for serving inspirational dishes that optimise the richness and variety of Scotland’s natural larder.

Congratulations to the winners!
