The historic Glenesk Hotel & Conference Centre in Edzell has created a new “Teas & Tours” offering guests the chance to enjoy the four-star hotel’s mouth-watering afternoon tea and take in some of the North East’s visitor attractions from the comfort of a luxury, chauffeur-driven vehicle.

Owners of the award-winning hotel Dylan and Alena Wren are hoping that this will appeal to small groups of 2 or 3 people as a day or half-day out with a difference.

With pre-booked tours of castles, distilleries, or even a game of golf, the service will be run with full respect for and adherence to the Scottish Government’s “test, trace, isolate, support” strategy.  Only one pre-booked excursion will be available each day and a full thorough clean of the vehicle will take place between outings.

Dylan Wren explained: “We saw this is a great opportunity to offer something to support the tourism in the North East of Scotland.

“We are already open for afternoon tea, socially distanced dining and room bookings are looking healthy. However, we also wanted to be creative in our approach to the tourist industry reopening, and do something a little bit different for people who are spending their leisure time in our part of the world.”

The Glenesk Hotel and Conference Centre is a Victorian property situated in the beautiful "Britain in Bloom" award-winning village of Edzell at the foot of the Angus Glens. Both Aberdeen and Dundee can be reached in around 40 minutes by car.

Built in 1896, the popular hotel prides itself on retaining the building’s original, classic charm and successfully marrying it with modern additions such as conference and leisure facilities. It features a one of the most comprehensively-stocked malt whisky bars around, boasting over 1,000 malts, 200 gins and rums with a large selection of bottled ales.

The completion of the extensive renovation programme led to the hotel’s elevation to four-star status by Visit Scotland and the securing of a Taste Our Best accreditation as part of the organisation’s scheme to recognise and celebrate businesses which provide locally-sourced, quality food and drink.

We love this idea and wish the hotel the very best of luck.
