The Italian-themed summer lawn invites guests near and far to experience pop-up food huts and specially curated drinks menus
Raise a glass to the start of the summer season and experience a taste of the ‘dolce vita’ in the rolling Ochil Hills at the Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire.
Launching this month, the iconic hotel will be revealing a brand-new look for its summer lawn, celebrating the age-old magic of Scotland’s very own Riviera in the Highlands. The transformation is a nod to the hotel’s storied history, taking guests on a journey through old school Europe, and channeling the charm of the Amalfi Coast.
When Gleneagles initially debuted as a majestic summer season destination in June 1924 during the glamorous age of travel, the great and the good would flock to the Perthshire countryside, arriving in style at Gleneagles’ very own train station. Since then, the 850-acre estate has become a must-visit destination for world famous country pursuits, golfing, exceptional family fun – with over 50 outdoor activities to choose from – and gastronomic experiences.
With blue and white deck chairs, an espresso-to-go Ape cart, and newly installed pizza ovens firing up a range of ‘Pizzettes’, Gleneagles’ summer transformation for 2022 is reminiscent of the Italian Riviera. The summer lawn will see guests from around the world toasting to exciting adventures, all while relaxing in the sunshine with glorious views, and indulging in the opulence, exceptional service and acres of green space that the hotel is famous for.
Gin & Tonic or Spritz in hand, choose from an Italian-inspired menu, with all the favourites from last year back again. Served from 12:00 – 17:00 daily, guests can get a taste of the seaside with dishes such as scallops with citrus butter, and Gleneagles’ own Scottish lobster roll. To satisfy a sweet tooth, indulge in treats from the tuck shop – open on weekends and holidays – such as crepes and signature sundaes made with soft serve ice cream.
At the drinks hut, which is open every day from 12:00 – 18:00, classic British summer drinks are made with Hendrick’s gin, including the new and limited release Hendricks’s Neptunia – “the magic of the sea expressed in gin”. To embrace the Italian theme, a variety of summery Spritz in partnership with Aperol, Campari and Crodino (a non-alcoholic version) are on offer, as well as a draught beer setup for refreshing, ice cold glasses of Menabrea lager. The Glendevon Terrace is the most elegant spot to enjoy a drink, and where Gleneagles are partnering with Moet & Chandon to create a specially curated menu, including a number of vintage champagnes by the glass. Summer is the perfect time to experience the breath-taking beauty of Perthshire, and there is no more glamorous escape than the glorious playground that is Gleneagles.
Rates at Gleneagles start from £575 based on two sharing and including breakfast. Non-resident guests are also welcome.
