Accor has 27 properties in Scotland, the brands Mercure and ibis have taken home gold in their respective categories at the 2019 British Travel Awards. ibis was announced the winner for Best Midscale/Economy Brand and Mercure took gold for the Best Midscale Plus Brand.

In addition, three Accor brands achieved bronze awards - Novotel in the Midscale Plus Hotel Brand, Pullman for Upscale Hotel Brand and Sofitel for Luxury Hotel Brand.

The announcement was made on 27 November at a glamorous Gala Awards ceremony, held in London and attended by nearly 1,000 travel industry experts.

ibis, created in 1974, is Accor’s economy brand, offering guests modernity, comfort and service at an affordable price.  It is now the European leader in economy hotels and the fourth largest hotel chain in its category worldwide with over 1,170 hotels and 150,000 rooms in 66 countries.

Mercure is a leading midscale hotel brand that combines the strength of an international network with a strong quality commitment and the warm experience of locally inspired hotels.  Mercure has over 810 hotels in 64 countries.

Thomas Dubaere, COO, Accor Northern Europe said: “We are so pleased that The British Travel Awards have recognised the hard work, passion and enthusiasm that the ibis and Mercure teams are so deserving of.  The individuals from both brands work tirelessly to deliver the best guest experience that our customers have come to expect, and we couldn’t ask for better ambassadors for Accor.”

British Travel Awards’ chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: “Accor is to be congratulated on winning Best Midscale/Economy Brand and Best Midscale Plus Brand for Mercure and ibis respectively.  Competition was particularly strong this year but ultimately it is the travelling public who decide the winners by voting for the travel companies they consider the best in the business.  The British Travel Awards is the largest awards programme in the UK and to win is truly an honour.”

The British Travel Awards is a proudly independent organisation, verified by leading global business practitioners Deloitte.
