In a post on social media, the ultra-talented executive chef Zoltan Szabo expresses his delight in seeing his dream come true.
Chef Szabo posted:
"To have beehives installed at Blythswood Square Hotel was a big dream of mine. In 2016 we installed three hives, supporting the environment and the declining number of bees that helps our ecosystem and biodiversity, or as the beekeepers call it Bee’Odiversity.
Biodiversity is a hot topic in our industry - think of Slow Food and terramadre .
At the beginning of the summer we relocated some of our beehives to a secret triangle garden in the West End of Glasgow. Our bees are doing amazingly well as they polinate the city.
I get inspired by them not just in the kitchen and I carved a few honeycomb display stands from Glasgow gin cherry cask which is a 100% natural recycled product. I decorated it with handcarved bees and leaves, it is perfect for buffet displays. You can see more on my page on Etsy.
Many people don’t realise the important job bees do and there are so many products that use honey and beeswax, not just the food #ndustry but also the pharmaceutical, dental and cosmetic industries as well.
Next time you come across a buzzing bee, please don’t kill it, it is just doing its job."
Congratulations to the team for the initiative and Chef Szabo for the result.
