Showcasing the Scottish restaurant, cocktail bar and a new Whisky and Cigar lounge

A £3 million refurbishment has commence at the four star Crowne Plaza Edinburgh – Royal Terrace, this will transform the hotel into an iconic Edinburgh destination that is set to attract international, national and local visitors, offering stunning and modern bedrooms.

The investment is part of a five month modernisation project which will revamp the historic five-storey hotel, located at Royal Terrace was previously known as Whisky Row and home to a number of high profile Edinburgh residents including John Crabbie (1806 – 1891), founder of the famous beverage company.

The Crowne Plaza Edinburgh 16 – 22 Royal Terrace began life as a hotel 80 years ago and this modernisation will be a contemporary twist on traditional design, whilst being respectful of the hotel’s history and location. The contemporary feel of the reception and lounge will embody a Scottish woodland theme, while the bookcase in the lounge will evoke the memory of Professor Charles Sarolea who occupied number 21 and 22 from 1901, it is said that he own the largest private library in Europe, containing 250,000 books.

The showstopper of the refurbishment will be the new Whisky and Cigar lounge. Due to its unique setting the Whisky and Cigar lounge will feature a custom built outdoor space with topiary, backing onto the terrace in its hidden gardens.

The restaurant will be transformed with a new layout, garden design, beehive styling and a fresh, modern-Scottish menu. The design of the restaurant is inspired by the gardens located at the back of the hotel. The glass doors will pull back, allowing visitors to enjoy dinning on the patio areas. Conference and events facilities will be refurbished and continue to offer a fantastic venue for celebrations and business functions.

Robert Glashan, General Manager, Crowne Plaza Edinburgh - Royal Terrace said, “We’re excited by the investment being made into the hotel which will allow us to make improvements across the building, from refreshing the bedrooms to transforming our dining and bar areas. The cigar lounge will bring a new dimension to the hotel and cater to high end international travellers. We can’t wait for the big reveal in the late summer.”

The work, which has already started, will be staged to allow the hotel to remain open throughout, the refurbishment will be unveiled in August 2018.
