The award win celebrates Leon’s integral role in establishing Spa at Blythswood Square as a stand-out feature of the luxury boutique hotel, and a destination spa in its own right.

As well as overseeing the successful completion of the spa before the hotel opened in 2010, Leon has built, trained and developed his own team of respected spa professionals, which now stands at 43 – 11 of whom were part of the original team of 17 in 2010.

Leon is now leading the charge as the Spa at Blythswood Square undergoes further refurbishment and investment, due for completion imminently.
Leon’s unwavering commitment to developing his team has reaped rewards for the Spa and the hotel, as well as benefiting the wider industry.

He has worked tirelessly to forge lasting relationships with local colleges, giving up-and-coming spa professionals vital work experience, resulting in 10 full-time roles within the team to date.

Leon, who has worked for Blythswood Square for more than seven years, said: “I’m honoured to receive such a prestigious award. I was up against some tough competition across the UK, so never expected to be named the winner.

Giving our guests and spa customers a fabulous experience really is a team effort, so the award is testament to the hard work and professionalism those that I work with. I’ve got a real passion for spa, health and beauty and get to do a job I love every single day. The award is simply the icing on the cake.

As well as ensuring success for Spa at Blythswood Square, Leon has built a fantastic reputation among industry peers as co-founder and director of luxury organic, seaweed-based skincare brand, ishga – used not only at Blythswood Square, but also across the UK and internationally, as far afield as China and Australia.

Murray Thomson, general manager of Blythswood Square, said: “It’s fantastic news that Leon’s work has been recognised on a national scale– it’s a thoroughly deserved accolade. Leon is an integral part of the wider hotel team and the reason that the Spa has been so successful over the years.
“Not only has his work guaranteed an excellent reputation among our guests; but also cemented the Spa a standalone destination luxury spa. He is respected by colleagues and peers within the industry thanks to all of the additional work he does related to the ishga skincare brand and his roles on various skills registry advisory committees.
“It goes without saying that he’s an absolute credit to the hotel.

The Hotel Catey Awards, are in their tenth year. The awards cast a spotlight on the industry’s most successful hotels, hoteliers and hotel employees across the UK, and celebrate their work towards delivering exceptional guest experiences.
