In a celebration of the patron saint of love, and as a bid to get to know Glasgow better, the team at Radisson RED questioned over 100 people about Glasgow and their love for the city
This Valentine’s Day Radisson RED asked the people of Glasgow to show their fair city some love by sharing their favourite photo-spots, music venues, murals and more.
The High Street mural, Man & His Robin by Smug was voted Glasgow’s favourite, winning 40% of the vote, with The World’s Most Economic Taxi by RogueOne coming in second place. The Billy Connolly murals, launched last year to mark the Big Yin’s 75th Birthday, received a lot of love and 25% of the vote. A guide to the murals can be found HERE (5mb .pdf).
More than 65% of participants said they preferred the West End to any other area of the city, and with its magnificent architecture and stunning views of Kelvingrove and beyond, Glasgow University came in top for most-loved photo-spot.
Albeit from Paisley, Paolo Nutini was the pick of the lot, followed by Gerry Cinnamon and Chvrches when asked ‘which local talent do you want to see next?’. The Barrowlands Ballroom was voted the favourite music venue in the city, followed by King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut and The SSE Hydro.
Over 80% voted The Banter and The People as the reasons why they love Glasgow. Over half said they love Glasgow more than Edinburgh or anywhere else, and over a quarter said they love Glasgow more than food or drink, with cheese, wine, prosecco and chips among some of the answers given.
Michael Weston, curator of Radisson RED, commented, “Art, Music and Fashion are at the core of everything we do at RED, and getting insight to the key trends in the city is vital for us. So while we’re still getting to know the city, we thought, what better way to do that than to find out what the people here LOVE most about their home town? It’s been great seeing the responses come in. People here are really passionate about Glasgow, that’s one thing I’ve noticed, for sure. We can’t wait to take all this inspiration and share it with our guests at the hotel, once we’re up and running.”
Radisson RED Glasgow, set to open in April this year, will be the first RED hotel to open in the UK.
