Winrams’ exhibition will be on display until the end of June 2019 and focuses on the perception of the world as a truly mythical and interconnected place.
Through the series of 10 unique images, guests and visitors to the hotel will gain an insight into the creative mind of the artist, experiencing his interpretation of old-meets-new. Rich in history, the iconic railway hotel is the perfect setting for the exhibition, as it proudly displays the collection against a backdrop of the capital’s heritage, fused with contemporary design.
The exhibits include ‘Thomas Edison’ alongside ‘Discovery of Aether’ as well as ‘The Watchers’, depicting an abstract twist on the concept of logic versus myth. Combining his talent as a contemporary fine art photographer with ideals and inventions that date back to the 1800s, ‘Mythologos’ reveals Winram’s personal portrayal of mythology and spirituality, featuring a number of significant milestones in time.
Photographer, Laurence Winram said: “We too often allow creativity to become masked by logic and scientific perspective, which is why I have tried to reflect on the mythical element in our lives through this series. ‘Mythologos’ is a concept practiced by the ancient Greeks whereby they made sense of their world and came to an understanding of their lives through a balance of both myth and logic.”
Dale MacPhee, General Manager at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian said: “We are extremely pleased to welcome Laurence and his stunning photographic collection, it provides a strong start to our exhibitions in Peacock Alley this year. We always like to recognise upcoming talent where possible and are proud to support one of our talented local artists. The ‘Mythoslogos’ collection is a perfect addition to the hotel and will definitely be a conversation starter as people sit back and enjoy the exhibits over the coming months.”
The ‘Mythoslogos’ exhibition will be officially unveiled at a themed launch event on 6 February with vintage décor and artefacts supplied by Unicorn Antiques an independent family run business. Situated on Dundas Street in the New Town, Unicorn Antiques, this year, celebrates its 50th anniversary and is home to treasures for every taste and every budget, with pieces from as far back as the early 18th century to more recent mid-century items.
Following the launch, the exhibition will become available for public viewing until 30th June 2019.
