For the second year running The Busby Hotel has welcomed children and their families from the When You Wish Upon a Star charity to enjoy a Disney themed Afternoon Tea.

A total of 22 families from all over Scotland travelled to the hotel in Busby, Glasgow, where they were treated to a day of Disney characters, music, dancing, games, prizes, food, face-painting and lots of fun.

When You Wish Upon a Star is one of the chosen charities supported by the Busby Hotel. The Busby team fundraise by doing charity walks and cycles – and they also arrange special events where they spend time meeting the families and granting wishes.

The charity helps to bring smiles to children aged 2-16 years who live with a life-threatening illness by giving them memories to treasure.

All the children made a fantastic effort for the day and arrived suitably dressed for the occasion. There was an array of colourful princesses, wonder women, supermen, and Toy Story favourites, Buzz Lightyear and Woody. The Busby team also got in on the action, and transformed themselves into characters such as Snow White, Elsa, Superman, Spiderman and Scooby Doo.

While the event was more about giving children and their families a memorable day, a total of £400.00 was also raised for the charity.

Juliet Parry, General Manager, The Busby Hotel said, “We’ve built up a great relationship with the When You Wish Upon a Star charity and all our team are invested in doing what we can to support them. This is the second year we have hosted this Disney Afternoon Tea, and it’s an event we all look forward to. We’re very touched and humbled by the children and families who come to visit us, and if we can bring smiles to faces, we’ve done what we set out to do.”.

Judith King, from the Wish Upon a Star charity in Scotland, said, “We would like to thank Juliet Parry and her wonderful team at The Busby Hotel, this is such a fantastic event. The aim of the day was to create and make precious magical memories, putting illnesses to one side and bringing smiles and laughter to our very brave and courageous children and their families. The team at The Busby Hotel have made it happen and more, and we can’t thank them enough, we are truly honoured that they have chosen to support us”.

The Busby Hotel is part of the Manorview Group portfolio which includes eight bespoke luxury hotels, throughout central Scotland. They have an ongoing charity initiative where every venue is working to support a chosen charity, by fundraising, raising awareness and donating their time.

About When You Wish Upon a Star

When You Wish Upon a Star has a simple mission, to grant the Wishes of children aged 2-16 living with a life-threatening illness.  We believe every child deserves to smile, some children Wish to be a fairy princess or soldier for the day, meet celebrities or sporting heroes or their favourite Disney Character and others Wish for a laptop to keep in contact with their friends and family whilst in hospital. Our Wishes have the power to transform the lives of the children and families we work with, and since 1990 we have proudly granted over 17,000 Wishes across the UK.
We are always thrilled to be a position to grant a child’s Wish and it is only with help from our amazing supporters that we can continue to grant Wishes where we can provide time away, giving children and their families something to look forward to through times of uncertainty and often financial as well as emotional strain. Wishes allow the family to put their child’s illness on hold as they have fun and create precious memories.
